1.1 General recognition procedure

Prerequisite for recognition of certain non-medical health professions in the Federal Ministry for Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection:

  • You have successfully completed training in an EU member state, in an EEA signatory state or in the Swiss Confederation and have a diploma, test certificate or other proof of qualification from this state or
  • You have a third-country diploma and are authorized to practice the relevant healthcare profession in an EU member state, in an EEA member state or in the Swiss Confederation and have proof of at least three years of legal and relevant professional activity in the sovereign territory of this state.

Information on recognition and which documents are required can be found in the respective job descriptions at: Jobs-A-bis-Z

1.2 Shortened recognition procedure (One-Stop)

The shortened procedure (one-stop) is the quickest way to obtain recognition for a healthcare profession in Austria. You will receive professional recognition within a few hours. Find out whether your training is specified in the checklist and under the specified proof of qualification. If the training to be recognized is not included in the list, the professional qualification cannot be recognized in the shortened procedure (one-stop).

The shortened recognition procedure (one-stop) remains suspended until further notice. Physical party traffic is only possible after making an appointment (by telephone or e-mail) with a clerk (see below) with the FFP2 protective mask to be brought and worn. No accompanying persons, please.
Applications for recognition can be submitted in writing by post.

2. Nostrification

Determination of the equivalence of training qualifications outside of an EU member state, an EEA member state or Switzerland. Depending on the healthcare profession, either the Austrian universities of applied sciences or the local office of the state government are responsible.

Information on nostrification can be found under: Nostrification of certain non-medical health professions

For professional recognition in certain non-medical health professions, an application must be submitted by means of a personally signed application.
